The Framing [1]
which encompasses the furniture's rigid foundation. Framing plays the
important role of defining the pitch of the seat and back, and the
quality of a frame's wood components and its construction have a direct
bearing on the piece's long-term durability.
The Springing Up [2]
which involves the virtually lost craft of constructing a hand-tied
base, customized to the furniture design's depth and configuration for
the most comfortable support possible. Many manufacturers claim to use
the hand-tied technique in generic terms, but a closer look reveals
that attaining a proper spring loading for a specific design is both a
science and art that few have mastered.

The Cushioning [3]
which properly relies on standard and custom combinations
of well prepared waterfowl down and feathers from Europe for a more
luxurious – and lasting – cushion resiliency.
The Fabric and Leather Tailoring [4]
which is the especially labor-intensive skill of cutting
the cloth or leather so that design and repetition patterns match
perfectly as the seams and pleatings come together.
